Mary Elizabeth Chambers

Mary Elizabeth Andrews Chambers, age 84, of Kingston Avenue, Newport, RI, passed away on Sunday, June 20, 2010 at home. She was the wife of the late Walter H. Chambers.A lifelong resident of Newport, she was born on June 20, 1926, the daughter of the late Manuel and Alice Gomes Andrews.Mrs. Chambers was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and she enjoyed taking care of young children for over 40 years making a big difference in their lives. She is survived by her children, Walter D. Chambers and his wife Jane of Newport, RI, Patricia Shaughnessy of Fall River, MA, Valerie Jacobs of South Carolina, and William H. Chambers of East Haven, CT; fifteen grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Robert C. Chambers.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 from 11am - 1 pm followed by a celebration of life service at 1 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
