Newport, RI - Mary E. Hicks Kelley, 66, of 6 Gibson Park Place, Newport, RI, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. She was the wife of the late Joseph Edward Hicks and the late William Russell Kelley. Born in Medford, MA on March 5, 1941, she was the daughter of the late James Joseph and Margaret Long Deviney.Mrs. Kelley was raised by her aunt and uncle, Eugene and Mary Kelley. She was a graduate of Rogers High School. Mary and her first husband Joseph owned and operated Joes Carriage Tavern until Josephs death in 1979. After his death she went to work for Best Western Mainstay and the Atlantic Beach Hotel. Mary was a member of the Newport Lodge of Elks Emblem Club and the Vasco De Gama organization. She is survived by children Ralph Hicks, Joseph Hicks, Jr., James Hicks, Michael Hicks, Kathleen Shea, Colleen King and Elizabeth Hicks all of Newport, RI, her sister Barbara Bryan of Newport, RI, her cousin Eugene Kelley of Massachusetts, and her grandchildren, Michael King, Jr., David King, Sean King, Timothy Shea, and Kyle Shea all of Newport, RI, Patrick Hicks of Beverly, Ma, Kara Hicks of Newport, RI, Joseph Hicks III of Florida and Ashley Rosa of Newport, RI. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2007, from 3-7 in the Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 222 Richmond Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI, 02903 or to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd., Suite 3004, Warwick, RI, 02886.
