Mary Frances (Reidy) Carlisle, 74, of Newport died Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Newport Hospital. She was the wife of Denis Carlisle of Newport.Born in Newport, RI, on January 12, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Michael Joseph and Mary (Carr) Reidy, both originally of Ireland. Mary was born and raised in Newport and grew up on Church Street as a child. She attended St. Mary's School, St. Catherine's Academy and Hairdressing and Cosmetology School in Boston for 2 years. After raising her children, she began her career at Newport Prescription filling in at many different jobs. Everyone she met, quickly became family, everyone was right at home around Mary. She was a talented conversationalist, and you could often see her around town with her "Reidy" license plates. She was a member of the Ladies AOH, the Newport Elks, a good friend of the Daughters of Penelope and was a founding member of the Handy Lunch Counter Social Club. Mary enjoyed bowling, and was a member of the Morning Glory Bowling Club. She was proud of her Irish dual citizenship, was a great collector of Irish memorabilia and enjoyed ceramics with the girls. She remained actively involved with the Mary Gomes Memorial Fund, and the annual golf tournament, held in memory of her daughter Mary.Besides her husband Denis of 39 years, she is survived by her children, Ray Gomes and his wife Brigid of Newport, Sue Gomes Raffa and her husband Terry of Middletown, Patrick Carlisle and his wife Julie of Newport, and Greg Sarni of Lakeworth, FL, her brother Mike Reidy and his wife Rosalie of Washington, DC, her sister in law Linda Carlisle, and her grandchildren, Patrick, Maggie, Molly, Maeve, Jack, Austin, Amanda, Quincy, Taylor, and Cameron. She will also be missed by her longtime friend Peggy Parisi of North Kingstown. She was the mother of the late Mary Margaret Gomes. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2016, from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.The funeral will be held on Friday, January 29, 2016, at 9:00am with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Augustins Church, Carroll and Harrison Avenues, Newport, RI.
