Mary L. Tavares

Portsmouth, RI - Mary L. Tavares, 93, of 16 Garden Street, Portsmouth, RI, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at Newport Hospital. She was the wife of the late Antone Tavares Born in Portsmouth, RI on Nov. 29, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Manuel M. and Georgiana Furtado Lopes.Mrs. Tavares was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church. She worked as a school lunch lady for the Newport and Portsmouth School Departments. She leaves her daughters Ann Marie Palma of Bristol, RI and Beverly Ann Tavares of Portsmouth, RI. She was the proud grandmother of Major Matthew J. Palma, USMC of Portsmouth, RI, and John N. Palma of Bristol, RI, and proud great grandmother of Justin M. Palma, Kyle A. Palma, Jacob T. Palma and Brendan M. Palma all of Portsmouth, RI.Mrs. Tavares was sister of the late Manuel Lopes, Joseph Lopes, William Lopes, Tony Lopes, Arthur Lopes, George Lopes, Jean Mello and Amelia Turley. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
