Portsmouth, - Mary Lou (Clark) Mello, 74, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at St. Annes Hospital Fall River, MA. Born in Rockland, MA, she was the daughter of the late George G. and Agnes E. (Morey) Clark.Mary Lou retired from Citizens Bank after, 30 years in banking. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy, where she was an accomplished gymnast. Mary Lou was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth and a member of the Portsmouth Democratic Women's Club. A lifelong communicant of St. Anthony's Church, she was a member of the Catholic Women's Club. Mary Lou volunteered her time at the Grand Islander Health Care Center and was a devoted fan of the Boston Celtics, New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. Mary Lou leaves her daughter Susan E. Mello and grandson Andrew Mello both of Portsmouth. She was the sister of Joyce A. Westcott of Tiverton, David A. Clark of Jacksonville, FL and Donna M. Menzi and her husband Walter of Farmington, NH. Other survivors include her sister in law Evelyn Clark and brother in law Lawrence Donovan, as well as several nieces, nephews. As well as her two closest friends Joan Figueredo and Anne PlourdeShe was the mother of the late Michael T. Mello and Joshua J. Mello. Mary Lou was the sister of the late Marilyn C. Donovan and George G. Clark, and was also preceded in death by her former husband Thomas E. Mello and longtime companion Samuel Cokinos.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 10:00am in St. Anthony's Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.Her family will receive friends before Mass from 9:00 to 10:00am in the church.Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, MiddletownMemorial donations may be made to Portsmouth Fire and Rescue, 2300 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
