Mary Louise Samuels

Newport, RI - Mary Louise Samuels, 93, of 14 Sea View Avenue, Newport, RI, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 13, 2010. Born in Newport, RI on March 28, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Murphy Samuels.Mary worked as an administrative secretary at the Newport Naval Hospital for 32 years and had also lived in Washington DC working as a secretary. She was a communicant of St. Marys Church and a member of the Newport Senior Center where she enjoyed taking many classes and trips. She was also a member of the AARP and the Business and Professional Women. Mary was a volunteer at the Newport Hospital Gift Shop and the Newport Art Association. She is survived by her sister Margaret Mary Groff of Newport, RI, her nieces and nephews Cathy Davis of New York, NY, Lisa Lauwers of Tiverton, RI, Marybeth Groff of New York, NY, Patricia Cawley of Newport, Arthur Larkin of CA, William Larkin of NY, Madeleine MacKenzie of CO, Nancy Caputi of NY, Kevin Larkin of NC, Steven Sprinkle of CA, Chris Sprinkle of FL, Margaret Crick of AZ, and Dan Sprinkle of TX, as well as many grand nieces and grand nephews.She was the sister of the late John Samuels, Anastacia Larkin and Elizabeth Sprinkle, and the aunt of the late Marie Dillion and Andrew L. Groff. Her funeral will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010, at 10:00 AM, in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January, 17, 2010, from 4-7 PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
