Middletown, RI ? Mary Magdalene Rieker Olaynack, 83, of 24 Kay Boulevard, Middletown, formerly of 33 Bliss Road, Newport, died Thursday, June 14, 2007 peacefully at home. She was the wife of the late Henry Joseph Olaynack. Born in Lancaster, PA, on February 18, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Florence Bitner Rieker. Mrs. Olaynack first worked as a phone operator for the Munchinger King Hotel. In the early 1960s, she owned and operated the ?Kiddie Korner? nursery school in Middletown. She was responsible for starting the first kindergarten in Middletown, called The Middletown Kindergarten, which she owned and operated until 1968. Mrs. Olaynack was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader for several years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was affectionately known to everyone as ?Gee?. One of her favorite pastimes was getting out and going for rides, especially around the Ocean Drive. She is survived by her children Florence Eva Hucks of Little Rock, AR, Cynthia Marie Gavin of Portsmouth, RI, and Leslie Anne Golden of Middletown, RI, her brother Frank Rieker, her sisters Florence Stoner, Patricia Tierney, Elizabeth Cetrone and Shirley Burger and her grandchildren Michael Lynn Hucks, Scott Hucks, Casey Marie Gavin, Caitlin Elizabeth Gavin, Christopher Henry Gavin, Courtney Alexandra Gavin and Patrick Sean Golden.She was the grandmother of the late Hal Lee Hucks and the sister of the late George Rieker, Josephine Rieker and Charles Rieker. Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 22 at 8:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columbas Cemetery in Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 21 from 5-7pm in the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
