Mary Margaret Silvia

Portsmouth, RI - Mary M. Mello Silvia, 88, of 55 Evergreen Drive, Portsmouth, RI, died on Friday, August 12, 2011 at home with her family. She was the wife of George E. Silvia. Born in Portsmouth, RI on January 20, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Manuel T. and Eva Perry Mello.Mrs. Silvia worked in her husbands business George E. Silvia Plumbing/Heating as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the In Between Camping Club, AARP, the Portsmouth Senior Center and a former member of the Middletown Senior Center. Mrs. Silvia volunteered at St. Lucys Church and was also a communicant of the church and she also volunteered at the Newport Hospital Auxilary. Besides her husband of 65 years, she is survived by her children, Carol A. Silvia of Middletown, RI, George E. Silvia, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Middletown, RI, and Richard A. Silvia of East Longmeadow, MA, her brothers Manuel J. Mello, Jr., Frank P. Mickey Mello and John Robert Mello all of Middletown, RI, her sister Eva B. Lopes of Portsmouth, RI and two grandchildren George E. Silvia III and his wife Elizabeth Silvia of Newport, RI and Stacy Silvia of Middletown, RI. She was the sister of the late George Mello. Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011, from 5-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
