JAMESTON, RI ? Mary R. Miner, 81, of 790 East Shore Road, Jamestown, RI, died Monday, May 2, 2005, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late William W. Miner, to whom she was happily married for 50 years. Born in New York City, NY on May 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Russell M. and Louise Morrison Robinson.Raised in Rutherford, NJ, she was a graduate of the Passaic Collegiate School, Passaic, NJ and Sarah Lawrence College in New York. A summer resident of Jamestown from 1942 to 1954, she became a year-round resident in 1955. She was a volunteer librarian at the Jamestown School in the 1960s, she served on the Jamestown Charter Review Commission in 1984, and she was a Trustee of Cedar Cemetery in Jamestown. She was a former member and co-chair, with her husband, of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography. She served on the Board of Directors of the Newport Historical Society where she charied the Museum Committee for a number of years. In 1996 she was chosen as the Societys first Volunteer of the Year. A long time member of the Jamestown Historical Society, Mrs. Miner had the care of its collections for over thirty years. She was Museum Chairman and Director until 1990, when she became the Societys Archivist. She spent many years researching local history and genealogy and took great pleasure in sharing her findings with others. She was always willing to write an article, review a colleagues manuscript, or give a talk on some aspect of Jamestown history. She is survived by her children Richard R Miner and Jane S.
