Newport, RI - Mary Woodward, 85, of 30 Freeborn Street Newport, RI, died Monday, March 28, 2005 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI. Born in Newport, RI on September 9, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Maximo and Geralda Neves Monteiro. Mrs. Woodward was a 1939 graduate of Rogers High School. She worked at the former Naval Torpedo Station during WWII, then worked for 5 years as a bookkeeper at the former Townsend Patriot Studio before working at the Newport Hospital for 10 years as a utility aide and then for 3 years in the purchasing department, retiring in 1984 at age 65. Mrs. Woodward was a communicant of St. Josephs Church and she was an avid reader. She is survived by her brother Albert Monteiro of Newport, RI, many neices and nephews and many great neices and great nephews. She was the sister of the late Julius Monteiro, Joseph Monteiro, Manuel Monteiro, Maximo Monteiro Jr., John Monteiro, Anthony Monteiro, Raoul Galvin, Georgina Monteiro Andrews, and Rita Monteiro.
