Middletown, RI - Mary Regina McCarthy Rogers, wife of Dr. Gerald Rogers of Middletown, died peacefully on November 9, 2004 at her home, with her family by her side. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Mary E. McKenna McCarthy. Mrs. Rogers spent her earlier years in Hartford, CT. she graduated from Mt. St. Josephs Academy and the College of New Rochelle, NY. Following her marriage she has resided in Newport for 55 years. Mrs. Rogers was a long-time volunteer at St. Josephs Church, bringing communion to patients at Newport Hospital and was a Sunday financial aide for the budget. She was an Adult Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Newport Hospital Auxillary and the Redwood Library. Besides her husband of 55 years she is survived by four sons Gerald Jed Rogers and his wife Marcia of Westerly, RI, Michael Rogers and his wife Mary-Ellen of Wethersfield, CT, Paul Rogers of Fall River, MA, and Peter Rogers of Barrington, RI, two sisters Margaret Ehler of Weston, CT, and Sr. Joan McCarthy of New Rochelle, NY, and nine grandchildren Gerald Rogers IV of East Providence, RI, Kelly Rogers of Boston, MA, Kevin Rogers of Westerly, RI, Michael Rogers Jr. SJ of St. Louis, MO, Francis Rogers and Mary-Kathryn Rogers both of Wethersfield, CT, Tracy Rogers and Karen Rogers both of East Providence, RI, and Peter Rogers Jr. of Barrington, RI.She was predeceased by her brothers Joseph, John and Edmund McCarthy.Her funeral will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2004, at 9:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM in St. Josephs Church, Broadway And Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Donations in her memory may be made to the VNA Hospice of Newport Bristol County, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
