Portsmouth, - Mary R. Gomes Escobar, 96, of 141 Middle Road Portsmouth, died Saturday, December 21, 2002 at home.She was the wife of the late Antone R. Escobar. Born in Middletown, RI on Aug. 2, 1906, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Mott Gomes.Mrs. Escobar was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church and a member of the St. Barnabas Church Womens Guild. She is survived by three daughters, Mary E. Silveria of Portsmouth, RI, Josephine E. Vierra of Portsmouth, RI, and Sadie Mott of Fishers, IN; three sons Antone R. Escobar of Yorba Linda, CA, Louis Escobar of Portsmouth, RI, and Manuel Escobar of Portsmouth, RI; four sisters Sadie Souza of Bowie, MD, Josephine Silvia of Middletown, RI, Evelyn Fernandes of Middletown, RI, and Gertrude Narcizo of Sandusky, OH,; one brother Louis J. Gomes of Middletown, RI; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late James Gomes, John Gomes, Frank Gomes, Elizabeth Lacerda, and Anna B. Silvia. Her funeral will be held Friday, December 27, at 9:00am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
