Middletown, - Mary L. Serbst Rogers, 75, of 20 Phillips Avenue, Middletown, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Rhode Island Hospital Providence, RI.She was the wife of John E. Rogers. Born in Providence, RI on Nov. 2, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Henry F. and the late Gladys Rodman Serbst.Mrs. Rogers was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School and of the former Newport Hospital School of Nursing.In the past she was employed at the Newport Hospital and for many years worked for the late Dr. Charles A. Serbst of Newport. She was also an office nurse for Dr. Elie Cohen and later for Dr. Joseph Blumen, both of Newport.She was a communicant of St. Lucys Church, Middletown. She was a member of the National Association of Physicians Nurses and of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, John H. Rogers of Bristol, RI, and Stephen P. Rogers of Portsmouth, RI; one daughter, Kathleen M. McCauley of Tiverton, RI; two brothers, Gerald Serbst and Henry Serbst, both of Bristol, RI; and nine grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Rita Marra.Her funeral will be held Saturday, July 3, at 8:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to the Middletown Rescue Wagon Fund, 239 Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI 02842 or to the Visiting Nurse Service Hospice, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
