Newport, RI - Mary Tavares Flowers, 94, of 44 Sheffield Avenue, Newport, RI, died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late Frank Leite Flowers, Jr.Born in St. Miguel, Azores on October 20, 1912, she was the daughter of the late John Tavares and Alexandria Oliveira Vieira.Mrs. Flowers was a homemaker who loved taking care of her husband and family. She was a communicant of Jesus Savior Church and a member of the Rosary Solidarity. During World War II, she worked at Rosas Laundry in Newport and then worked for Dr. Dunn on Spring Street in Newport.She is survived by her brother Edward Vieira of Portsmouth, RI, her son-in-law, Jesse Vieira of Portsmouth, RI, two grandsons, Steven Mark Vieira of Philadelphia, PA, and Gary Francis Vieira of Tiverton, RI, granddaughter Denise Marie Meikle of Portsmouth, RI, and three great grandchildren, Jesse Gerard Dufault, Michael Daniel Vieira and Stephen John Meikle, all of Portsmouth, RI.She is preceded in death by her daughter, Edna Flowers Vieira and her brother, John Vieira.Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at 8:00 am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport.
