Middletown, RI - Mary V. Malone Mathewson, 93, of 140 Bliss Road, Middletown, RI, died Monday, December 19, 2005, at the Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown.She was the wife of the late Arthur C. Mathewson.Born in Portsmouth, RI, on February 27, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Jackson Malone.Mrs. Mathewson worked at the Rhode Island State Police Barracks in Portsmouth as a domestic. After moving to Newport she worked at the LaForge Tea Room, and she was also the Dining Room Manager at the Hotel Viking for many years. During her career in the hospitality business, she worked for the former Shamrock Cliff, Sheraton and Treadway Hotels. After retiring in 1986, she continued her career as a helper and aide to numerous elderly clients in Newport. She was an active member in the Aquidneck Island Business and Professional Womans Club, serving as Treasurer for several years and she was also a communicant of St. Josephs Church.She is survived by her sons Thomas C. Mathewson of Blakeley, GA and Arthur C. Mathewson Jr. of Marietta, GA, her daughter Mary V. Ronnie McCoy of Windsor Locks, CT, her brother Raymond L. Malone of Little Compton, RI, her sisters Helen Matley of Middletown, RI and Sister Cecelia Parrott of Marietta, GA, her granddaughter Ann M. Cataloni of Middletown, RI, her grandsons James V. McCoy of Enfield, CT, Andrew C. Mathewson of Tuscalusa, AL, Christopher T. Mathewson of Marietta, GA and David C. Mathewson of Canton, GA, and six great grandchildren.She was the grandmother of the late Sharon Clay and sister of the late Rita Malone, Andrew Malone, Thomas Malone, Paul Malone and John Malone.Her funeral will be held on Friday, December 23, 2005, at 8:00AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00AM in Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport, due to renovations to St. Josephs Church.Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery, Middletown.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2005, from 2-4PM and 7-9PM in the Memorial Fuenral Home.Memorial donations may be made to St. Josephs Church, Building Fund, 5 Mann Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
