Mary V. Botelho Flowers, 84, formerly of 582 Turner Road, died Monday, September 2, 2002 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI.She was the wife of the late John J. Flowers. Born in Providence, RI on October 18, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Tavares Botelho.Mrs. Flowers was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church, Newport. She had worked as a nurses aid at the Newport Hospital during the 1950s 60s. She later worked as a counselor at the Dept. Of Child Family Services from 1965 through 1971. Later she was a group home house director at a group home for the Maher Center, the first group home on Aquidneck Island and one of the first in Rhode Island. She loved ballroom dancing and traveled the world. She is survived by her son John J. Flowers III of Middletown, RI, her daughter Barbara Silva of Rehobeth, MA, two sisters Olive Sarkisian of New Bedford, MA and Mary Hallene of Warwick, RI, five grandchildren and six great grandchidlren.She was the mother of the late James Brabant; and sister of the late Adeline Robbio, Hilda Botelho, and Anthony Botelho. Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 6, 2002, at 8:00AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport.Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
