Matthew John Faerber, a devoted husband and loving father, passed away at home on February 6, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born on September 6, 1949, in Newport, Rhode Island, to Matthew and Katherine (Foley) Faerber.
Matthew was immensely dedicated to his family. He spent 54 beautiful years married to his wife, Paula Faerber, with whom he shared an inseparable bond and embraced life's many adventures. Together, they created a warm and loving home in Portsmouth, where they raised two sons, Justin and Logan. Matthew took great pride in being a father, guiding his sons with wisdom and humor, and later relished the role of grandfather to his beloved grandson, Gavin Faerber. He also leaves behind his cherished daughter-in-law, Rachel Ingold.
As a lifetime Aquidneck Island resident, Matthew loved nature, especially the ocean, and was often at his happiest outdoors hiking. His kindness extended to the birds and animals that he fed and brought him joy. Matthew was a man of deep character and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a sage piece of advice. He deeply valued the connections he made and was a loyal friend. Matthew was a man of boundless curiosity who never found a subject he wasn't eager to learn more about, and he was quick to share what he learned with those he cared about.
After graduating from the Portsmouth Priory (now Abbey), he continued his education by achieving his degree from Boston College. Mathew went on to earn his law degree from the New England School of Law. For many years, he was employed by the City of Newport as the Deputy Director of the Water Department.
As we remember Matthew, let us cherish our memories of his warm smile, his infectious laughter, and the love and kindness that touched everyone who knew him. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit and wisdom will continue to guide us in the years to come.
Matthew is also survived by his sister, Maureen Ripa, who shared countless memories of their lives together. Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Katherine Faerber, and his sister,Kathleen Cross.
