Newport, RI - Maureen F. Smith, 69, of Newport, died Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Born in Fall River, MA on November 29, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Seraphine Pavao and Fannie (Lima) Pavao. Maureen grew up in Tiverton and Portsmouth, RI. She graduated from St. Catherines Academy in 1961 and began working at Raytheon. Maureen enjoyed a successful career for over 30 years as an Interior Designer specializing in Kitchen and Bath design. Her talent was recognized in several magazine publications over the years. After retirement, she found a new talent creating drawings and paintings. Maureen also enjoyed gardening and helped beautify the neighborhood by tending to the deck gardens at Mumford Manor. No less creative were the beautiful meals she loved to cook for her family and friends. For many years, Maureen was a member of the Mosaic Club. Maureen was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by her two daughters Karen Smith Biastre of Middletown, and Cheryl Smith-DiGennaro of Portsmouth, her son-in-law Stephen Biastre, a brother Gerald Pavao of Charlestown, NH, and a sister Catherine Connors and husband Patrick of Providence, RI, and her three beloved grandsons Nathan Biastre, Nikolas DiGennaro, and Justin DiGennaro. Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Rd, Portsmouth. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 29 at 3PM, with the location to be announced during calling hours.
