Merle Paul Provost

Newport, RI - Merle Paul Provost, 79, of Newport, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. He was the husband of 58 years to Rosa (Wirsching) Provost. Born in Glen Falls, NY on February 8, 1935, he was the son of the late Leon and Louise (Ploof) Provost. Merle served in the US Army and the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War. After retiring from the Navy he worked at N.U.S.C. Merle enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Merle was an avid Red Sox and Patriots Fan. Besides his wife Rosa, he is survived by his three children, Leon Provost and Roy Provost of Newport, RI, and Rosel Provost of Middletown, RI, his nephew Norman Provost and his wife of California, and his niece Donna White and her husband of New York. He also leaves his buddy Rudy.He was predeceased by one infant child and two brothers Norman Provost and Leon Provost."Fair Winds and Following Seas"Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014, from 9-11AM, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 12:00PM, in St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Calling hours will also be held on Monday, July 14, 2014, from 10:00AM-12:00PM in the Memorial Funeral Home.
