Newport, RI - Mersene Merta Tsepne Psaras, 72, of 23 Thurston Avenue Newport, RI, died Sunday, December 7, 2003 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI.She was the wife of the late George Psaras. Born in Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece, on January 9, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Efstratios and Constantina Tsepne. Mrs. Psaras was a Dietatary Technician at the Newport Hospital for fifteen years, retiring in 1995. She was a very active member of St. Spyridons Church, she loved to cook for the church feast and family. She was a member of the Daughter of Penelope Society, the Philopolatus Society. Mrs. Psaras was an avid supporter of the Rogers High School Basketball team. She was a seamstress all her life having studied the proffesion in Greece she worked for various clothing stores in the Newport area and for her family and friends. Mrs. Psaras enjoed going for a good walk and then meeting her friends for lunch or coffee. She is survived by her son James Psaras of Middletown, RI, her granddaughter Julia Rose Psaras of Middletown, RI and her brother Stelios Tsepne of Mytilene Lesvos Greece. Her funeral will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2003, at 10:00AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Spyridons Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport. Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown. Dontations in her memory may be made to the Dana Faber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02205-5584.
