Michael A. Thomson

Michael Anthony Thomson, age 56, a resident of the Rhode Island Veterans Home, died February 23 at The Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence.He was born in Cleveland, Ohio in March 1957 and was the son of David and Mary Beth Thomson of Middletown. Michael graduated from Middletown High School in 1975. Following his service in the U.S. Navy, he became a career postal worker, retiring from the U.S. Post Office in Bristol. At the Rhode Island Veterans Home, he was active as an officer in the residents' association and worked to incorporate suggestions for enhancing the assistance and support provided to veterans.Besides his parents, he leaves two children, David and Elizabeth, and two brothers, William D. Thomson of Richmond, Virginia, and Andrew G. Thomson of Bristol. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 27 at 11 am at Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway in Newport, with burial at St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.In lieu of flowers a donation is suggested to: Alpha-1 Association, 2937 SW 27th Avenue, Suite 106, Miami, FL 33133.
