Middletown, RI - Michael A. Bunker, 84, of 11 Winthrop Drive, Middletown, RI, died Sunday, April 18, 2004 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI. He was the husband of Lila Margaret Goffe Bunker. Born in Portsmouth, NH on August 16, 1919, he was the son of the late Charles Francis and Mary A. Ahearn Bunker. Mr. Bunker served in the Navy for 22 years, during World War II in the South Pacific and Japan. He also had served in Operation Deep Freeze from 1955 to 1956 in Antarctica. After is service in the military he went to work at the Newport Naval Hospital as a medical technologist for 12 years in civil service retiring in 1974. Mr. Bunker was a life member of the Newport Rifle Club, the Newport Ham Radio Operator Club, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He was an avid outdoors man, who enjoyed hiking, mountain climbing and hunting. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons Michael Austin Bunker Jr. of Newport, RI, Wayne A. Bunker of Bangor, ME, and Dr. Bruce William Bunker of Westford, MA, his daughter Marilyn Hennessey of Middletown, RI, his brother John Bunker of Cleveland, OH, his sister Tina Duggan of West Warwick, RI, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.He was the brother of the late Charles Bunker Jr. and Frances Wellman.His funeral and burial are private.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the Newport Hospital Foundation, C/O Mary Alice Smith, 11 Friendship Street, Newport, RI 02840.Arrangements are by the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
