Michael Edward Lopes, 74, of 601 Wapping Road Portsmouth, died Saturday, November 5, 2005 at home in Portsmouth. He was the husband of Dorothy Joan Carter Lopes. Born in Fall River, MA on August 6, 1931, he was the son of the late Michael Lopes and the late Mary Silvia Lopes.Michael graduated from Rogers High School. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. After the war, he owned and operated Mikes Flying A Service Station on West Main Road in Middletown and also worked for Restivo Brothers as a truck driver. Later he took a job with Sears, Roebuck and Co in sales. For most of his career, Mr. Lopes worked as an equipment mechanic for Boulevard Nurseries, retiring in 1991.He is survived by his wife Dorothy Joan Lopes of Portsmouth, RI, a son Richard M. Blight and his wife Arlene of Middletown, RI, a daughter Brenda Teckman and her husband James of Haverhill, MA, a daughter Mary Gray of Portsmouth, RI, a sister Susan Lopes of Middletown, RI, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers George and Joseph Lopes, and a sister Mary Mello.His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 9, at 7:30 PM in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
