Middletown, RI - Michael George Alexander, Sr. 64, of Middletown, RI, died suddenly on Friday, June 11, 2010. Born in Newport, RI on November 12, 1945, he was the son of the late George P. and Helen A. Sylvia Alexander.Michael was a lifelong resident of Aquidneck Island and graduated from Rogers High School. He was a longtime personal aide to the late Sen. Claiborne Pell, a cab driver, and a limousine chauffeur.He enjoyed and appreciated his family and friends and could spend countless hours talking about automobiles at the Broadway Dunkin Donuts. He was a member of the former Newport Drifters Car Club.Michael will be lovingly remembered by his children and family for his sense of humor, his compassion, ability to listen, empathize, and counsel, and for his extraordinary generosity. He is survived by his two children, Diane Michelle Alexander and her fiance Jesse Almeida of Middletown, RI, his son Michael G. Alexander, Jr. of Middletown, RI, their mother Diane Bartel and her husband Robert Bartel of Middletown, and his sisters Maryanne Fischer of Middletown, Patricia Raffa and her husband Peter of Middletown, Jane Back and her husband Beckham of Arizona, Susan Welch and her husband Max of Connecticut, and his brother William Alexander of Florida. Mike also leaves behind four grandsons, Bryan, Zachary, Price, and Brandon Alexander, and a granddaughter Avery Almeida, and ten nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Kathleen Maynard. His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 19, at 11:00am, in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be private.Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 18 from 4:00-8:00 pm in the Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, pay it forward, do a good deed for someone in a manner Mike would have done for you.
