Newport, - Michael George Massed, 84, of 23 Hoppin Road Newport, died Friday, June 4, 2004 at Newport Hospital Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Alice DeCosta Massed. Born in Warren, RI on November 24, 1919, he was the son of the late John and Nellie Massed. Mr. Massed was a topographic engineer with the former Department of Defense for the United States Government in the Warwick, Rhode Island office. He was a member of Jesus Saviour Church and the Holy Name Society. Mr. Massed was active in Jesus Saviour Church, he assisted in many masses, he was a former member of the feast committee and former Mordomo and also a former CCD teacher in the church. Mr. Massed was a former DeLa Salle academy fathers club member. Mr. Massed was also a member of the Middletown Knights of Columbus, Council 4201. Mr. Massed served in World War II and the Pacific Theatre as a torpedoman for the United States Navy. He is survived by his sons Stephen P. Massed and James M. Massed both of Portsmouth, RI, his daughter Michele Massed of Newport, RI, five grandchildren, Stephen Massed, Christopher Massed, Kevin Massed, Michael Massed all grandsons?s of Portsmouth, RI and his granddaughter Emily Massed also of Portsmouth, RI.He was the father of the late Michael George Massed Jr. and brother of the late Alfred Massed, Joseph Massed, Miley Massed and Alice Massed. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport.
