Michael H. Monroe

Michael H. Monroe, 58, of 42 Kingston Ave, Newport, RI, died Friday, July 6, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, RI. Born in Newport, RI on February 24, 1954, he was the son of the late Florence Monroe.Michael was a graduate of Rogers High School and attended Johnson and Wales University. He was compelled to help others, and used his bookkeeping skills as Director of the Volunteers Inter-Service to America programs in Newport. Michael was also a talented cook and enjoyed sharing his talents for friends and family. He will be remembered for his dry wit, which often kept everyone on their toes, but those who met him would inevitably come to love his fun and warm personality.He is survived by a brother Paul Monroe and two sisters Alberta Ali and Gloria Monroe all of Providence, RI, many cousins including Shirley Tyler of Newport, RI, two aunts Barbara Williams of Newport, RI, and Charlotte Weston of Middletown, RI, and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 12, at 11:00 am in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport.
