Michael J. Stitilis

Newport, RI- Michael J. Stitilis, 55, formerly of Third Street, Newport, died Saturday, June 23, 2007. Born in Brockton, MA on November 20, 1951, he was the son of Lena V. Matulis Stitilis of Massachusetts and the late Ralph M. Stitilis.Mr. Stitilis was employed at Pro Newport on Memorial Boulevard. He graduated from Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA and was a 1973 graduate of the University of Vermont. He had a lifelong passion for sailing which brought him to Newport in 1983 while working for Sperry Topsider a sponsor of the America s Cup. He loved the outdoors, was an accomplished skier and avid sports fan.In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children, Olivia and Will Stitilis of Connecticut and his sister, Regina S. Duda and her husband, Martin, of California.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a future date in St. Mary s Church, Spring Street, Newport.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, National Council of the United States, 58 Progress Parkway, St. Louis, Missouri 63043-3706.
