Newport, RI - Michael M. Younng, 79, of 553 Bellevue Ave, #12, Newport, RI, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at his home. He was the husband of Janet Humphreys Younng. Born in Roxbury, MA on February 22, 1930, he was the son of the late Hyman and Lillian Diamond Goldstein.Mike grew up in Boston and graduated from Georgia Tech University. He worked most of his career as an engineer, specializing in data systems. Over the years he worked for American Airlines, Uniroyal, Diebold, and several other companies. He also continued his career as an independent management consultant for many more organizations. Mike Younng believed in participating in your community, he was a political activist, he was president of the Sherwood Condo Association, and he wrote a regular column in the local paper to encourage the debate for the betterment of society. He was a Libertarian and an objector with a maverick streak, but believed in helping everyone around him. He was always curious and eager to learn, studied history and served as president of the Charlestown Historical Society. Most of all, Mike was dedicated to his family, always protecting and providing for them. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet Younng of Newport, RI, a son David Younng of Bridgeport, CT, and a daughter Claudia Mullane and her husband Daniel Mullane of Killingworth, CT, and three grandchildren, Jeremiah, Michael, and Grace Mullane. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, October 31, at 11:30 am in Sherwood Condominiums, 553 Bellevue Ave, Newport.Burial will be private.
