Fort Hood, TX - Sgt. Michael Timothy Franklin, 31, of 52010-2 Arapaho Loop, Fort Hood, TX, died Monday, September 27, 2010.He was the husband of the late Jessie Ann Yeager Franklin.Born in Newport, RI, on July 17, 1979, he was the son of Beverly Lavone Franklin of Middletown, RI.Michael was a 1998 graduate of Rogers High School and a 2007 graduate Salve Regina University. He played Middletown Pop Warner Football, played for the Rogers High School Football team as well as being a cheerleader for Rogers. He was a substitute teacher in English for Newport, Middletown and Portsmouth Schools. Michael worked at the Boys and Girls Club and truly enjoyed working with the kids. He went on to join the Army and became a Sergeant serving two tours in Iraq. He loved nothing more then spending time with his family and friends, especially his children.Besides his mother, he is survived by his children, Byron David Franklin and Mikayla A. Franklin of Fort Hood, TX, his brother Marques Franklin of Middletown, RI, his sister Danielle Franklin of Newport, RI, his beloved nana Mary Lee Franklin of Newport, his aunts MaryAnn Crook of Pensacola, FL and Ruby A. Franklin of Newport, RI, his nephews Daniel Franklin and Austin Luczynski of Newport, many cousins and his adopted family, Donna Byron, Bridget Byron, Specialist Anthony K. Byron and the late Robert Byron, all of Middletown. He leaves his grandfather Charles Robert Franklin and also his Godmother Shirley Rose.He is predeceased by his brother, Bruce Franklin and his aunt, Debra Franklin. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010, from 5-9PM, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Friday, October 8, 2010, at 9:00 AM, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM, in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.Donations in his memory may be made to Operation Smile, 6435 Tidewater Drive Norfolk, VA 23509.
