Michael W. Burke

Michael W. Burke, 72, of Wolcott Avenue, Middletown, RI, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Newport Hospital.He was the husband of Ann M. (Corriera) Burke.Born on May 11, 1942 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late William and Gertrude (Horan) Burke.Mr. Burke began his working career as a laborer and retired as a custodian with the Middletown School Department after 23 years. He was a communicant of Jesus Saviour Church in Newport an was an active member of the United States Marine Corps for four years. Michael was also an avid sports fan and loved his New York Giants. He went to Rogers High School and participated in baseball, football, track and field and much later in life, slow pitch softball. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Sean M. Burke and his wife, Heather, of Middletown, RI; his sister, Kay Sheehan and her husband, Paul; his brother, Robert Burke and his wife, Cheryl; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Barbara Harrington, Mary Ann Dinnegan and Jane Williams.Michael also leaves behind his beloved dog Fergie and his grand-puppy Charlie. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 from 8:30 - 9:30 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway and Vernon Avenue, Newport, RI.
