Newport, - Miguel ?Mike? Borromeo, 74, of 21 Crest Street Newport, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center Providence, RI.He was the husband of Zita Bofill Serra Borromeo of Middletown and the late Teresita E. Borromeo, MD. Born in Carigara, Leyte, Philippines on December 10, 1928, he was the son of the late Miguel and Natalia Borromeo Majam. Mr. Borromeo was a Mechanical Engineer. He is a retired Chief Petty Officer and served in the United States Navy in the Nuclear Power Propulsion program. He was the first President of the Filipino-American Association of Newport County and a member of the Hope Foundation International, a group organized to benefit the people of the Philippines. He was also a member of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations, the Northeast Federation of Filipino American Organizations, the Rhode Island Cultural Foundation, the People of God?s Love, Providence prayer group, the Navy League, the DAV and the Fleet Reserve. Mr. Borromeo enjoyed fishing and gardening. He had helped many people in the area with coordinating their veterans benefits. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter Dr. Georgina Borromeo, PhD, her husband Vincent Kilbridge and their sons Tho and Cole Kilbridge of Providence, RI, Miguel Borromeo of San Diego, CA, Dr. Carlos J. Borromeo, MD and his wife Nina Roth and their son Christian, of Needham, MA, and Herman F. Borromeo of Middletown, RI, three brothers Manuel Borromeo and Allison John Borromeo both of the Philippines, and Santiago Majam of N.J., three sisters Mila Borromeo and Luzonica Bautista both of the Philippines, and Evelyn Llamas of Virginia.His funeral will be held on Monday, June 2, 2003, at 8:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 AM in St. Lucys Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
