Born in Jamaica, New York to the late Albert A. and Caroline (Rehm) Kotze, Al was the eldest of five children. He was the brother of Ronald Kotze and Kenneth Kotze of New York, Carolyn Fillmann of New Hampshire and the late Dorothy Kotze Broring.He is also survived by his two children, Pamela A. Lendrum and her husband, Jack, of Bremerton and Steven A. Kotze of Newport, RI. He also leaves 4 grandchildren: Adam N. Lendrum of Bremerton, WA, Christen Baker of Norton MA, Steven Baker of Newport RI, and Jonathan Kotze of Middletown, RI. He was great-grandfather to five, and had many nieces and nephews.Al married his true love, the late Dorothy E. Lampe for nearly 55 years until her passing in 2006.After losing his wife, Al was ready for an adventure. At 80 years of age, he moved to Bremerton with his daughter and son-in-law. To his joy, he made a loving home comprised of family members from 4 generations.He proudly served 30 years in the US Navy. He retired in 1975 with the rank of Electronics Technician Master Chief. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star, the WWII Victory Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal/Europe Clasp, Expert Pistol Shot and numerous Good Conduct Awards.After retiring, he served with USPS as a Rural Mail Carrier for 14 years.He enjoyed several hobbies including: Stamp Collecting, Bowling, and Expert Marksman with a pistol.He loved to play penny poker, work jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed a good cigar. Here in Bremerton, what he enjoyed most was dining out. His favorite places were the Big Apple Diner, the Airport Diner, the No. 1 Buffet and Los Cabos and Sharis in Silverdale. Al was a gentlemen and a gentle man. He believed in fixing problems instead of fixing the blame.A humanitarian, he provided aid to the underprivileged, the elderly, hungry children and fellow veterans.His funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 12 noon in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown, RI.Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013 from 7-9 pm in the funeral home.
