Alfred J. Barker

Alfred J. Barker, died Wednesday evening, May 2nd at South County Nursing Rehabilitation Center.Born in Newport, RI on April 28, 1930, he was the son of the late John E. and Dorothy (Cornelis) Barker. He recently celebrated his 60th year of marriage to Helen E. (Champlin) Barker.Mr. Barker was a Middletown Fireman for 24 years and also a 1st class mechanic helping many people with their problems. He loved fishing with his friends and also being "on the road" with his wife in their RV, travelling across the country many times, to Canada and Mexico. He also enjoyed winters in Florida.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Alfred J. "Jerry" Barker, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Tucson, AZ and Fred Barker of Hawaii; a brother, John F. Barker of Middletown, RI; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Barker of Tucson, AZ; five nephews and one niece. He was the brother of the late Dorothy "Jackie" Milner.A memorial service will be held in his honor on Friday, May 11, 2012, at 5:00pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI. Calling hours will be held from 3:00-5:00pm in the funeral home preceding his service.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Middletown Rescue Wagon Fund, 239 Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI 02842.To all Al's friends and family "Keep out of the hot sun."
