Andrew A. Panteleakis, 86, of Newport, RI, quietly passed away on Saturday, June 15, in the presence of his loyal care giving friends. Mr. Panteleakis, a noted Real Estate Developer and entrepreneur, was instrumental in developing and building the first modern style, center core, one story nursing home facilities with separate wings for private, Medicare and Medicaid patients. Among his many achievements, he conceived, developed and built Kent Nursing Home, Grandview Nursing Home, and Grand Islander Health Care Center in Rhode Island, Norwichtown Convalescent Hospital, Skyview Convalescent Hospital, Waterford Nursing Center and Groton Regency in Connecticut, and Franklin Equestrian Center and Hunter's Run Residential Development in Franklin, MA. Mr. Panteleakis also was the proud owner, renovator and resident of the Miramar Estate, Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI, from 1970 to 2006. A Classical High School student who served in the Army Air Corps during the World War II, Mr. Panteleakis was the son of the late Aristides and Constance Panteleakis, the brother of Louis A. Panteleakis and his late wife Pauline, of Pearl River, New York, and the late Freda Danakas and her husband the late Theodore Danakas, of Williamsville, New York, and the uncle of Dr. George Danakas and his wife Dr. Maria Corigliano, Mary Danakas, Connie (Danakas) Hofert and her husband Peter, Connie (Panteleakis) Edlund and her husband Carl, and A. Steven Panteleakis and his wife Vicki. His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 11:30a.m., in the St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church, Thames Street, Newport. His burial will follow in the North Burial Ground in Providence. Visitation will be held the morning of his funeral from 10:00-11:00a.m., at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.
