Benjamin V. Jenkins

Benjamin V. Jenkins, age 74, of Middletown died Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Newport Hospital in Newport, RI. Benny was born August 16, 1940 in Richlands, NC. He is the son of the late Durant V. Jenkins and the late Marguerite (Lanier) Jenkins. He was married to Lorraine T. (Rodrigues) Jenkins for the last 45 years. Benny grew up in North Carolina and moved to Newport to join his sisters who already moved here. He has owned and operated Jenkins Electric since 1976. Over the years, he enjoyed restoring and showing his 1957 Corvette, and he spent many days travelling with his wife to car shows all around the country. Benny was also a founding member of the second chapter of the Viking Riders, and previously served as its president. He enjoyed many days on the road riding with family, friends and other members of the group.He is survived by his wife Lorraine T. (Rodrigues) Jenkins of Middletown, a son Scott Hebrock of Middletown, a daughter Hollie Hebrock Towey and her husband Tim Towey of Newport, and a son Benjamin Jenkins Jr. and his wife Gretchen of Middletown, six grandchildren: Carter Hebrock, Riley Hebrock, Kailey Hebrock, BJ Jenkins, Gavin Jenkins; his siblings Shirley Rauenzahn and her husband Wayne of Portsmouth, David Jenkins and his wife Jackie of Middletown, Thomas Jenkins and his wife Lorie of Newport, and Randy Jenkins and his wife Joanne of Portsmouth; he also leaves his granddog "Willie Doyle". He was preceded in death his brother Hector Jenkins and sister Margaret Arnett.Burial will be private.Donations may be made in his memory to Middletown Rescue Wagon Fund, 239 Wyatt Road, Middletown, RI 02842, or to Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
