Charles L. (Larry) Blair, 70, of Newport died peacefully at home on February 20, 2015.Born on November 30, 1944 in Newport, RI, he was the son of the late James and Helena (Douglas) Blair. Mr. Blair served honorably in the Army in the 224th Signal Company as a lineman/field communications crewman, where he earned both the sharpshooter and good conduct medals. He was a member of the VFW, the Fleet Reserve and the Newport Sportsman Club. After the Army he worked as a commercial production painter until his retirement. He also worked on the construction of the Newport/Pell Bridge. He was a graduate of Rogers High School and attended Rogers William University.Charles is survived by his daughters, Heather (Blair) Schneider, her husband Raymond and their children, Blair and Miller of South Kingstown, and Elena (Perkins) Transue and her husband Stephen and their children, MacKenzie and Madelyn of Middletown. He also leaves two sisters: Pat and her husband, Dow Anthony of Chesapeake, VA and Joan and her husband Dick Swanson of Portsmouth, his sister-in-law Dorothy Blair of Bucksport, ME and several nieces, nephews and cousins in RI and ME, and many dear friends including a longtime military friend, J. Parker of Wood River, Illinois.He was predeceased by his brothers, Master Sargent James Blair of Bucksport, ME in 2009, and Douglas Blair of Portsmouth in 2011.His burial will be on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 11:00am in the Rhode Island Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, RI.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the organization of your choice in Charlie's memory.
