Earl W. (Shad) Shadday was born on June 28th, 1923 in Mansfield, IL. He departed for his heavenly home on February 22nd, 2015 with his son and family by his side in Tiverton, RI. Earl, better known as Shad, was the son of the late Elmer and the late Emma Shadday. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis (Frame) and his siblings Willis, Russell and Ruth. He is survived by his daughter, Janice and son-in-law Mark Saunders of La Plata, MD; his son, Craig, daughter-in-law, Susan and granddaughter, Natasha of Bristol, RI. Earl graduated from Mansfield High School in 1942, where he was active on the basketball team, the baseball team and in the theater program. He served in the Army Air Force during WWII and was stationed in Great Britain. Earl enlisted in the Air Force in 1948 and retired from active duty in 1968. Following his military service, he worked at Kansas State University in Housing Maintenance. Following retirement, Earl and Phyllis resided in Colorado, and later in Arizona. They enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful trips together. Following Phyllis' passing, Earl moved to RI to be near his son and family.Earl was a wonderful, dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed drawing, gardening and working on home improvement projects. He loved music and especially loved swing dancing. Throughout the years, Earl remained a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.His family has many cherished memories of their time together. Earl will live forever in his family's hearts.Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27th at Memorial Funeral Home in, 375 Broadway, Newport from 5:00pm-7:00pm. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28th at First Presbyterian Church, 6 Everett Street, Newport at 1:30pm in Newport. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
