Francis Kenneth Murphy

Francis Kenneth Murphy, age 88, formerly of Portsmouth, and more recently of Forest Farm Health Care Center in Middletown, RI, died Monday, February 23, 2015 at Warren Skilled Nursing Center of Warren, RI. Francis was born February 22, 1927 in Fall River, MA, to the late Christopher P. and Frances L. (McVey) Murphy. Francis graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River, MA, and after graduation, he joined the Navy to serve during WWII. He continued to work for the Navy as a civilian employee on the Newport Naval Base until the late 1950's. He then began a long career at the Coachman Restaurant in Tiverton, retiring after 23 years, in 1989. He was an avid fan of motion picture and theater history. He was most fond of the Golden Era of Hollywood, but was well versed on all decades of movie and theater history.Francis is survived by his sister Phyllis Chrupcala of Westport, MA and he leaves 12 nieces and nephews, many more grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by three brothers, Christopher P. Murphy, Henry P. Murphy and Edward F. Murphy, and two sisters; Marion Giblin and Claire Murphy, and two nephews, Christopher P. Murphy and Barry Chrupcala.Calling hours will be held on Thursday February 26, from 9:30am -10:00 am in the Connors Funeral Home 55 West Main Rd in Portsmouth, with a prayer service being held at 10:00am in the funeral home.Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Patricks Cemetery, Fall River, MA.Memorial donations may be made in his name to your local VFW Post..
