Middletown, RI - Gary R. Frye passed away on June 11, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn I. (Perry) Frye.Gary was born in Chester, PA, on January 22, 1940. He was the son of the late Glenn and Doris (Taylor) Frye.Gary grew up in Morton, PA. He was a graduate of Ridley High School, Morton, PA (Class of 1958). He was also a veteran, serving 20 years in the US Navy before retiring. Gary went on to earn a BS degree from Roger Williams University, and retired after working 18 years as a social worker for RI's Department for Children, Youth and Families.Gary was very active in Masonry, serving three separate terms as Master of St. Paul's Lodge #14 in Middletown, RI, and was a member of the Shriners, York Rite and Scottish Rite.Gary loved to fish, read, work on home projects, tend to his kitties (Petra and Eliza) and was quite a joke teller. He would give a hand to anyone in need, assisted in a local soup kitchen, and was always available to sit and just listen. He was such an all-around great guy and will be missed by many... he lived respected and died regretted.Gary is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn, a son Mark Frye and his wife Trish of New Jersey, a daughter Barbara Frye and her companion George Miller of Pennsylvania, four granddaughters, Tara, Jillian, Gina and Rosie, a grandson, Danny and a great granddaughter, Teaghan. Gary is predeceased by his son Richard (Dukie) Frye and his brother Roger Frye.His funeral will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., in the St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. His burial will follow the service in the St. Mary's Churchyard.Visiting hours are excluded.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Robert Potter League for Animals, PO Box 412, Newport, RI 02840.
