George Edward Souza Portsmouth, - George Edward Souza, 90, of Portsmouth, died Friday, December 19, 2014 at Grand Islander Health Care Center Middletown, RI. Born in Portsmouth, RI on Apr. 6, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph B Souza and Rose G. (Soares) Souza. Mr. Souza worked as a truck driver for the former Newport Oil Corporation for 25 years, retiring in 1986. Mr. Souza was a member of the Vasco da Gama Society, the Holy Ghost Society, the Teamsters Union Local 251, the Middletown Knights of Columbus and St. Barnabas Church. He loved Duckpin bowling, playing bingo and doing Search Word puzzles. He was a very kind and loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, and loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Meleleu of Middletown, RI, Sandra Hein and her husband Phil of Portsmouth, RI, and his brother Richard Souza of Newport, RI. He is also survived by his grand daughters, Stacia Wood of Middletown, Bethany Bradfield of Middletown and Melissa Meleleu of Port Charlotte FL, and his great grandchildren, Riley, Justin and Isabella Wood, and Robert and Lawrence Bradfield. George's family would like to thank the staff at the Grand Islander Homestead Unit for wonderful and compassionate care that he received as a resident there. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen and his siblings, Robert Souza and Doris Foss. Calling hours will be held on Monday December 22, 2014 from 4-7pm in the Connors Funeral Home 55 West Main Road Portsmouth, RI His funeral will be held on Tuesday December 23, 2014, at 9:00am from the funeral home, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
