George Paul Rosa Jr

Newport, RI - George Paul Rosa, Jr. 70, of Newport died Friday, February 22, 2013, at Newport Hospital surrounded by his family.He was the husband of Teresa Anne (Shaffell) Rosa. Born on January 23, 1943, in Napa, CA, he was the son of the late George P. and Doris May (Reynolds) Rosa. Mr. Rosa was a Veteran of the Vietnam War who served this country proudly. He was a Paratrooper with the First Airborne Brigade, 187th infantry 3rd US Army. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Air Medal. He most recently worked at Naval Station Newport as a pipe fitter, retiring in 2006. He had previously worked for Newport Oil, Chaves Oil and the Newport Shipyard. An avid hunter and fisherman, George was a member of the Newport Gun Club and Tiverton Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, the loves of his life. George will be remembered as a devoted family man.Besides his wife of 36 years, he is survived by his daughters, Doris May (Rosa) Burke and her husband Rob of Bristol, RI and Terry Anne (Rosa) Delany and her husband Aaron of Newport, RI, his brothers, Albert and his wife Margaret "Peggy", Christopher and his wife Barbara and William and his wife Mary Rosa all of Newport, RI, his sisters, Judy Ramos and her husband Bob of Newport, RI, and Linda Francis and her husband Rick of Florida, and his grandchildren, Lexie Burke, Zachary Burke, Kaylee Delany, Lily Burke, Julia Delany, Gracie Burke and Cameron Delany.He was the brother of the late Doris May Rosa. Calling hours will be held on, Tuesday, February 26, 2013, from 4-7pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at 11am in the Memorial Funeral Home.Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Newport Rescue Wagon Fund, 21 W. Marlborough Street, Newport, RI 02840, or to the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
