John D. Silveira

John D. Silveira, 79, of Wapping Road, Middletown, RI, died on Thursday, April 11, 2013 in Seminole, FL. He was the husband of Arleen C. (Elshant) Silveira.Born in Middletown, RI on January 14, 1934, he was the son of the late Manuel D. and Mary (Soares) Silveira.Mr. Silveira grew up in Middletown and enlisted in the Army after school. He married Arleen Elshant on June 14, 1958 in Jesus Saviour Church in Newport. He began his career as a union carpenter as well as several restoration projects for Doris Duke. For the past 26 years, he and his wife Arleen have wintered at Seminole Gardens in Seminole, FL. They both enjoyed great nights out in area restaurants.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Manuel D. Silveira, Jr. of Middletown, RI; and his sisters, Mary Dopart of Portsmouth, RI and Agnes Pasquale of Middletown, RI; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Antone and Joseph D. Silveira, and three sisters, Anna Silveira, Helen Silveira and Anna Raposa. His funeral will take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 9:00am from Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, 509 Broadway, Newport, RI.
