Joseph Azevedo Domingoes, Jr., 88, of Middletown died Friday, September 11, 2015 at his daughter's home in North Kingstown, RI. Joseph was born July 29, 1927 in Newport, RI and was the son of the late Joseph Azevedo Domingoes and the late Roseanna (Plouf) Domingoes. He was the husband of Jennie (Ciavarini) Domingoes for 51 years.Joe was a graduate of Rogers High School and a lifelong Aquidneck Island resident. He entered the US Navy Reserves after WWII. He was called into active duty during the Korean War and served for several years overseas. Upon his return home, he began working at the Naval Station Newport in a variety of positions. He retired as a War Games Specialist after a 35 year career at the Naval War College. He also donated his time to his community, as Chairman of Middletown Planning Board, a member of Newport Planning Board, and was involved in the redesign and construction of the Middletown Police and Fire Complex. As a longtime communicant of Jesus Saviour Church, he was an active volunteer for the annual bazaar, and a member of the church Finance and Building Committees.He is survived by two sons: Joseph A Domingoes III of Portsmouth, and Jeffrey A Domingoes of Charlestown, and one daughter Jo Ann Nannig of North Kingstown, RI, one brother John Domingoes of Portsmouth, and four grandchildren, Sophia, Jack, Jade and Haley. He was preceded in death by his brothers Harry and Arthur Davis and a sister Anna Burke.The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 16 with visitation from 8:00-9:30am at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Jesus Savior Church, 509 Broadway, Newport, RI. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown.Memorial Donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02904.
