Newport, RI - Thomas A. Donahue, 73, of Newport, RI, died unexpectedly Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Irene (Craft) Donahue. Born in Newport, RI on August 28, 1938, he was the son of the late George and Adeline (Ruggeri) Donahue.Thomas was a lifelong Newporter and communicant of St. Marys Church. For 38 years, Tom was a letter carrier for the Postal Service, retiring in 2003. He also served in the US Army Reserve from 1957 to 1969. He was a member of the Newport Elks Lodge and was an avid fisherman. Tom enjoyed spending time with friends and family and loved playing with his grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Thomas Donahue of Oklahoma, Timothy Donahue of Texas, Troy Donahue of Newport, RI, Christine Donahue of Newport, RI, Andrew Donahue of Tiverton, Steven Carr of Newport, Laurie Carr of Portsmouth, RIHe also leaves five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Chick Russo and Louise OConnor. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport. Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to Newport County Mental Health Center, 127 Johnny Cake Hill Road, Middletown, RI 02842.
