Vincent G. Girard Sr

Vincent G. Girard., 98, of Tiverton, RI, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013, surrounded by loving family. The husband of the late Florence (Sherman) Girard, he was born on May 25, 1915, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Armand and Mary (Lyman) Girard. Mr. Girard was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He was a graduate of St. Johns Prep. He moved to Manchester, Connecticut and enjoyed a 35 year career in the Security Division of Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. On retiring from that position, he became the Director of Security at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut. He had a wonderful retirement with travel, golf and great times spent with family. In recent years, he moved to Sakonnet Bay Manor in Tiverton and enjoyed the company of new friends and caring staff . He is survived by his son, Vincent G. Girard, Jr. and his wife Susan of Estero, FL, his daughter in law Sharon Girard of Evanston, IL, his daughter Lynn Galvin and her husband Neil of Portsmouth, RI, his grandchildren, Catherine Girard, Elizabeth Girard, Gregory Girard, Mark Girard, Scott Girard, Timothy Girard, Girard Galvin, Andrew Galvin, Conor Galvin, and Kevin Galvin, and his great grandchildren, Jackson Girard, Ellie Girard, Shea Girard, Grace Galvin, and Caroline Galvin. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence Girard, his son, Armand Girard, his brothers, Joseph and Armand Girard, and his stepbrother William Jayne. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 11:00a.m., in the St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. Visitation hours will be held the morning of his funeral on Tuesday, from 9:00-10:30a.m., at the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. He will be laid to rest in the St. James Cemetery in Manchester, CT.
