William A. Smith

William A. Smith, age 88, of Crest Street, Middletown died Friday, August 14, 2015 at Heatherwood Nursing Center of Newport, RI. William was born on November 17, 1926 in Newport, RI. He is the son of the late William and Isabelle (Roque) Smith, and grandson of the late Manuel and Helen Roque.Bill was a WWII veteran of the US Army and a graduate of the University of Rhode Island. He spent the majority of his career as a Hotel Manager at the Park Plaza Hotel in New Haven, until his retirement in 1974. Bill lived in Simsbury, CT from 1975-1997, he then moved to Middletown, RI. Bill was a loving father who adored his children and grandchildren, music, his friends and community. His family will remember him by his laugh and his stories, and his endless sense of humor.He is survived by his daughter Kimberly Sherman of Farmington, CT, and five grandchildren, Desaira, J.D., Taber, Tyson, and Sam.He was preceded in death by a daughter Karyn DeCarlo and his sister Judy Russell.Calling hours will be Tuesday, August 18 from 11:00am-12:00pm at Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI with a memorial service will be held 12:00 pm in the Funeral Home.
