Beulah D. Chase

Beulah D. (Babbitt) Chase, 90, of 133 Carroll Avenue, Newport, RI, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Heatherwood Nursing and Subacute Center, Newport, RI. She was the wife of the late William Henry Chase.Born in Newport, RI on September 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Cora (Mallett) Babbitt.Mrs. Chase was a graduate of the Newport School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and worked her entire career at the Newport Hospital. After her retirement she continued to work in private duty care. She was a longtime member of Trinity Church. Mrs. Chase was an avid reader and bridge player. She loved to work in her garden and loved to ride her bike in the summertime to Gooseberry Beach to swim and enjoyed the peacefulness of the ocean at Green Bridge.She is survived by her children, William Henry Chase Jr. and his wife Carol of Warren, ME, Jonathan H. Chase of Newport, RI, and Cherilyn Boyd and her husband William of Duxbury, MA, five grandchildren, Lisa Anne Leclerc, Shannon Bennett, Jason Chase Boyd, Karma Chase and Michelle Mank, ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.She was the sister of the late Harold Babbitt, Preston Babbitt and Bruce Babbitt.Burial will be private.Donations in her memory may be made to Hospice at Visiting Nurse Service of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
