Catherine L. O'Loughlin

Catherine Lillian OLoughlin, 84, of Portsmouth, Rhode Island passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Charlton Memorial Hospital Fall River, Massachusetts. Born in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, the daughter of Hugh and Catherine (Greene) Smith on May 31, 1929. She graduated from St. Catherine's Academy and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School.Catherine was the loving wife and sweetheart of Francis Anthony O'Loughlin for 64 years. Catherine is also survived by her nine children and their spouses: Nancy and Bruce Filgate, Very Reverend Francis O'Loughlin, Thomas and Kirstien O'Loughlin, Edward and Elise O'Loughlin, Michael O'Loughlin, Joseph and Elisabeth O'Loughlin, Kathleen and Kevin Kendrick, Timothy and Jamie O'Loughlin, and George and Lareal O'Loughlin. She was also the proud Nana of 22 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, all because a young man saw a beautiful girl walking down the street and never took his eyes off her. Catherine's life was dedicated to her loving family, the Catholic Church and her Irish heritage. She is also survived by five brothers and three sisters, Hugh, George, James, Joseph, and Eugene Smith, Eileen Lemoi, Margaret Svendsen, and Patricia Kane. Catherine was predeceased by her sister, Betty Lamb.There will be a funeral Mass on Monday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Saviour, Broadway at Vernon Avenue, Newport, Rhode Island. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown, Rhode Island.In lieu of flowers, family has requested donations in her name to your favorite charity.
