Newport, RI - Dorothy Dottie Mary (Desautels) Walker, 85, of Newport passed peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord Friday, May 31, 2013, with her family by her side at Heatherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Newport, RI.She was the wife of the late Robert E. Walker.Born in Woonsocket, RI, on May 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Alfred J. Desautels and Lillian (Massart) Desautels.Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of St. Catherines High School. She was an accomplished pianist and a lover of music. She was the organist and music director at St. Augustin Church for 20 years, from 1972-1992. She was an active member of the Swanhurst chorus. Dorothy was also an Eucharistic Minister and member of the Franciscans, often bringing the Holy Eucharist to the sick at hospitals and nursing homes. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She and her smile will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children, Robert E. Walker Jr. and his wife Michelle of Newport RI; Peter J. Walker and his wife Laura of Pasadena, CA; Timothy R. Walker and his wife Ellen also of Pasadena, CA; Michael J. Walker and his wife Emma of Portsmouth, RI, CSM(R) Matthew C. Walker and his wife Laura of Columbus, GA; Patricia A. Walker of Riverside, CA; Mary B. Wren of Augusta, WV; Christine E. Palmer and her husband Ken of Syracuse, NY.; twenty grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.She was predeceased by her daughters, Marilyn A. Walker and Elizabeth J. Carroll, and her grandson, Barton J. Carroll.Her funeral will be held on Friday, June 7, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Josephs Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport.Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2013, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home.Her burial will be private.Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Heatherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Resident Activities Fund, 398 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI 02840.
