Edith W. (Covell) Simmons

Edith W. (Covell) Simmons of Middletown passed away, Saturday, June 29, 2013 in Newport Hospital, she was the wife of the late Stephen Simmons.Born in Newport, she was the daughter of the late George and Elsa (Bergstrom) Covell.She leaves her son Stephen N. Simmons of Newport and grandchildren Christine Wight of Vail, CO, Stacey Simmons of Centennial, CO and David Simmons of Silt, CO. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Jillian Caldwell of Golden, CO, Amber Simmons, Jesse Simmons and Chloe Simmons, all of Newport andMichael S. Simmons and Lilly Graul of CO.Edith was the grandmother of the late Michael Simmons.Edith was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church on Washington St. and was an active participant in church activities until recently. She was a member of the John Clarke Retirement Center Scrabble Club, an avid reader and she enjoyed bridge, knitting, cooking and gardening.A Burial Office and Requiem Mass will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at 10:00am in St. John the Evangelist Church, Washington and Willow Streets, Newport, RI.Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Tiverton.Donations in her memory may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 61 Poplar Street, Newport, RI 02840.
